Annual Buffet Evening

Our first meeting of 2014 was the society’s New Year Party. This was again held in the Church Hall with a majority of members attending.

A substantial buffet, by Trestle Catering of North Walsham, was well received, with many members opting to refill their plates. This was followed by the evening's entertainment which was provided by an enthusiastic group of 6 ladies who sang 'a cappella' (unaccompanied) under the name of “The Mad Dogs”. They are all members of the Norwich Community Choir founded by Meg Turpin, who was also leading the group. A male colleague was co-opted for one item which needed a tenor voice and a volunteer from the floor joined the performance at one stage.

The songs chosen covered a wide range of music ranging from “A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square” and “Tennessee Waltz” to “Away in a Manger” and numerous folk songs and sacred music.

After a short interval when the raffle was drawn the entertainment continued and the enthusiasm of the singers communicated itself to the audience. All in all a very enjoyable evening.

Our thanks are due to those who arranged the event and to all those who donated raffle prizes.
